Biography

He provides the strategic direction to the Centre and leads its advisory, consulting, research and capacity development programme. He is also the Director of Centre of Excellence in Urban Development at ASCI instituted by the Government of India.

He is an urban environmental planner and public health engineer with over two decades of experience in urban infrastructure services, governance reforms and equity. He specialises in water and environmental sanitation (WASH) services in urban areas and his portfolio spans policy, programme, capacity development and knowledge management projects for national, state and city governments

He engages with multilateral funding agencies, national government, the corporate sector, private donors, Academic/ R&D institutes and civil society organizations, political leaders, the media, and CoPs to leverage financial and technical resources for accessible and equitable WASH services. He works with a number of Start-ups in WASH and mentors themto achieve scale.

He serves on various Inter on ministerial and department level committees on urban development, water supply, smart cities and environmental sanitation at the State and National levels. .He supported Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India by undertaking independent appraisal of city development plans, reforms implementation and smart city proposals. He is is a committee member of the GOI’s reinventing the toilet programme and national FSSM Alliance. He is a member of the Steering Committee on Urbanisation for the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-2017). He assisted GoI for draft ingnational urban sanitation policy and urban water supply and management policy 2019(draft).

He is a speaker and resource person in global and national fora. He co-instituted the National Urban Water Awards programme and Service Level Benchmarking Programme with the Government of India (2008) to establish norms and accelerate performance improvement in municipal water and sanitation in India and has been the recipient ofthe Water for Life UN-Water Best Practices Award (4th edition) for its successful advocacy. He ​has also been conferred the Ashoka
